CUHK admits 3,135 outstanding HKDSE students, including seven out of nine perfect scorers
(Updated on 18 Aug)
CUHK has admitted, through JUPAS, 3,135 students who sat for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination this year. The intake this year is impressive: over 99% of them are Band A students. Among the nine perfect scorers (students who achieved Level 5** in seven or more subjects) this year, seven have been admitted to CUHK. Five of them have been admitted to study Medicine (Global Physician-Leadership Stream), including two “super top scorers” who achieved Level 5** in eight subjects. Another “super top scorer” joined the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science Programme. 57% of students who achieved 5** in four or more subjects in the HKDSE territory-wide have been admitted to CUHK, representing the highest proportion among all JUPAS-participating institutions in Hong Kong. The University has announced that Admission Scholarships will be offered to students attaining Level 5** in one or more HKDSE subjects. This year, 778 students are eligible for the scholarship.
In terms of the median admission scores of the best five subjects, five out of the top 10 programmes and streams among the JUPAS institutions in the territory are at CUHK: Medicine (Global Physician-Leadership Stream), Medicine, Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science, Global Business Studies, and Quantitative Finance. Medicine (Global Physician-Leadership Stream), which admitted 41 students this year, has been the top programme with the highest median admission scores territory-wide for nine consecutive years.
Choice institution for students with diverse talents and interests
As a cradle for the development of all-round talent in students, CUHK provides a wide selection of undergraduate programmes to nurture students with diverse interests. This year, 13 CUHK programmes admitted top students with a score of 33 or above in their best five HKDSE subjects: Global Business Studies, Quantitative Finance, Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science, Artificial Intelligence: Systems and Technologies, Computer Science and Engineering, Medicine, Medicine (Global Physician-Leadership Stream), Pharmacy, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Enrichment Mathematics, Enrichment Stream in Theoretical Physics, Psychology, and Social Work.
This year, 14 students have been admitted to CUHK through the “Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship Scheme” and 116 students have been admitted under the “School Principal’s Nominations Scheme”. They were recognised for achievements in and outside their schools and communities.
