CUHK wins 21 awards at the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme
CUHK has won 21 awards at the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2022-2023, including 13 Triple Gold Awards, seven Gold Awards and one Friendly Website mention. The recognition scheme was organised by the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC), and co-organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), while the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) served as an independent adviser. The award presentation ceremony was held on 24 April, and representatives from award-winning departments at the University attended the ceremony to receive the awards.
The scheme aims to encourage web accessibility among organisations in various industries and sectors, to contribute to building a caring and inclusive society and to showcase corporations that have demonstrated outstanding efforts in facilitating access to their websites and mobile applications.
The Triple Gold Award is awarded to recognise organisations who has attained Gold Award for 3 consecutive periods. To attain a Gold Award, numerous judging criteria need to be met to provide better accessibility features, including meaningfully sequenced and structured contents, clear headings and informative links, and high compatibility with assistive technologies that facilitate smooth navigation. Besides these, details such as the colour contrast of text and images, the font size options and the use of sign language are evaluated, through qualified system and practical operations, on how they address the need of all users including people with disabilities and seniors.
