Institute of Space and Earth Information Science builds academic relationship with Harvard
The Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) of CUHK has signed a memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation and exchange with Harvard University’s Center for Geographic Analysis to establish a long-term academic relationship.
The Institute co-organised a two-day international conference, “From Geospatial Research to Health Solutions”, with the Center in March. Professor Kwan Mei-po, Director of the Institute and Choh-Ming Li Professor of Geography and Resource Management, led a multidisciplinary team from the Institute, the Department of Geography and Resource Management, the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, and the Earth System Science Programme to attend the conference held at Harvard.
During the trip to the US, the CUHK team also collaborated with Harvard University and Oxford University to host a symposium on geospatial approaches to solving global pandemics, climate change and food security at the annual meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG).
On the occasion, Professor Kwan received three prestigious prizes awarded by the association to her in the past three years in recognition of her contributions to geography (see details at these press releases). Zherong Wu, a PhD student supervised by Professors Ma Peifeng and Li Honsheng, won first place in the AAG Student Honours Paper Competition, the first time a CUHK student received the prize.
