Diversity and Inclusion Carnival
The Cultural Square was in a fantastic atmosphere on 19 January as the Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO) hosted the D&I Carnival 2024. The vibrant and inclusive gathering drew a crowd of close to 500 students and staff members.
As part of the D&I Festival campaign, the carnival aimed at fostering a greater appreciation of diversity, inclusion and cultural integration.
A powerful Japanese Taiko performance kicked start the carnival with a message of empowerment, encouraging everyone to challenge stereotypes. An inclusive team sport called “Kin-ball” took centre stage, emphasising unity and inclusivity of all individuals, regardless of their abilities, ethnicities, geographic provenances, and backgrounds. The event also offered a glimpse into the talents of individuals with physical or visual impairments. Student associations from the mainland, international and Central Asia showcased the rich tapestry of their cultures through adorned booths, interactive games, and delectable snacks.
During the ceremony, CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan expressed his gratitude to the collaborative efforts of Colleges, faculties, and units in co-creating a welcoming campus environment. He shared an African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”, highlighting the significance of concerted endeavours. The carnival inspired attendees to uphold and embed the important values of diversity and inclusion.
