Carbon Neutral at Chung Chi

Chung Chi College launched “Carbon Neutral @ Chung Chi” last Friday (12 April), a new year-long programme to inspire to students to actively contribute to carbon emissions reduction.

The programme, a response to the CUHK’s mission of achieving carbon neutrality by 2038 and supported by the Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office, will encourage Chung Chi students to take on “carbon neutral challenges” such as assessing their own carbon emissions in their daily life and walking 10,000 steps a day for seven days in a row. Those who complete the challenges successfully will be awarded with meal vouchers.

A highlight of the programme is the opening of “Chung Chi Carbon Neutral Garden”, a recyclable green installation created by Dr Han Man, Dr Pedram Ghelichi and Chen Jun from the School of Architecture. The quiet green space is open to all for people to connect with nature and learn about ten daily actions to achieve carbon neutrality.

The kick-off ceremony was held at the College Chapel. Former secretary for the environment Wong Kam Sing, Head of Chung Chi College Professor Kwan Mei Po, Director of CUHK’s Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office Cecilia Lam were among the officiating guests.
