Fourth Innovation Day ignites clean energy solutions for a sustainable tomorrow
CUHK’s fourth Innovation Day held last month was a vibrant celebration of the University’s research and entrepreneurship, showcasing CUHK startups and featuring thematic talks about clean energy solutions.
The exhibition held on 20 September was participated by the six CUHK InnoHK Centres, seven CUHK innovative projects newly funded by the government’s Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme (RAISe+), and more than 30 startup projects established by staff, students and alumni. The event united an impressive array of stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders.
Undersecretary for Environment and Ecology Diane Wong Shuk-han, CUHK Council Member and legislator Lau Kwok-fan, Council Member Nick Chan Hiu-fung, who also chairs the government’s Innovation and Technology Venture Fund advisory committee, were guests of honour at the opening ceremony.
Attendees enjoyed eight enlightening thematic talks by CUHK professors focussing on “clean energy and advanced materials to achieve carbon neutrality.” A lively panel discussion provided a platform for business leaders and CUHK professors to exchange expertise and insights on the pressing societal needs for clean energy and CUHK’s pivotal role in addressing them.
CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sham Mai-har highlighted the University’s ongoing commitment to clean energy research and innovation. She said: “Over the years, CUHK has been dedicated to promoting Hong Kong as a global innovation hub through active collaboration with the government and industry partners. We look forward to working closely with all the stakeholders in our collective effort to build a sustainable future.”
To further enhance CUHK’s startup ecosystem, the University offered an online guided exhibition tour in Mandarin, introducing its startups’ groundbreaking innovations to a global audience of political, industrial and academic guests. Besides, around 150 local secondary school students participated in onsite tours to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Innovation Day is part of CUHK’s broader “CUHK Innovation and Entrepreneurship” initiative this year, which aims at fostering collaboration between academia and industry, creating synergies, and igniting creativity among startups to forge impactful partnerships for the society.
