A decade of entrepreneurial ventures
The CUHK Entrepreneurship Day 2024 gathered more than 40 startup projects from over 100 alumni and staff in a wide range of activities last month, fostering knowledge exchange and sharing business insights among alumni, students, faculty members and investors.
The two-day event, celebrating its 10th anniversary and started on 27 September at the Yasumoto International Academic Park on campus, featured an exciting programme including entrepreneurship exhibitions, an interactive experience zone for entrepreneurial projects and one-to-one entrepreneurship consultation sessions. Industry leaders were invited to share business insights at keynote seminars.
Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK Professor Rocky S. Tuan said in his opening remarks: “In the past decade, CUHK Entrepreneur Day has supported more than 500 start-ups founded by CUHK professors, alumni and students in showcasing their innovation and entrepreneurship achievements. CUHK remains committed to contributing to the country and benefiting the society in the years to come.”
Ivan Lee Kwok-bun, Hong Kong’s Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, was among the officiating guests at the opening ceremony.
An exhibition, showcasing over 40 start-up projects from over 100 CUHK alumni, faculty members and students, covered artificial intelligence and robotics, biomedical technology, the Internet of Things and blockchain, social innovation and education.
Alumnus Peter Hung, president of licensing and branded ventures of Forbes Global Media Holdings, delivered a keynote speech on the latest developments of young entrepreneurship worldwide. The addition of STEM workshops at the event this year aimed to enhance participants’ problem-solving skills and innovative thinking, receiving a positive response.
Provectus Therapeutics Limited, run by alumni Marco Suen Man-kin (Biomedical Engineering, 2022) and Tony To Sai-shing (Computer Science, 2023), was crowned as the champion of this year’s Entrepreneurship Competition. The company’s mission is to understand the heterogenetic drug responses of different cells and customise chemotherapies for every cancer patient. Mag Med Biotech and Agilis Robotics Limited were the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively, and BlueSky Precision Medicine Limited won the “Most Popular Award”.
