CUHK’s The China Review selected for Equitable Open Access
12 March 2025
Since February this year, The China Review, an academic journal published by CUHK Press, has been available for full-text open access on the Project MUSE Subscribe to Open (S2O) platform. The S2O initiative is an innovative open-access model that enables academic journals to be freely accessible to the public without charging authors article processing fees.
Project MUSE, a collaboration between the university library and the Milton S. Eisenhower Library of the Johns Hopkins University Press, hosts over 800 journals and 100,000 books. Its new S2O program selects 100 academic journals from 27 university presses in its initial stage, with CUHK Press being the only Asian publisher.
The China Review is an interdisciplinary academic journal focusing on China studies. Founded in 1991 by Professor Wang Shaoguang, it has been included in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) since 2007 and is currently ranked in SSCI’s top quartile (Q1). This quarterly journal aims to bridge the academic communities of the West and the Greater China region. In recent years, it has placed greater emphasis on reflecting China’s latest developments, encouraging scholars to contribute research incorporating first-hand data and materials, innovative methodologies and fresh perspectives.
