CUHK rises to 38th in QS World Rankings
Best result in over a decade
In the latest QS World University Rankings (QS), CUHK placed 38th in the world. It is one spot higher than last year’s ranking and represents CUHK’s strongest performance in over a decade. QS assessed the performance of over 1,400 universities from around the world. CUHK’s performance places it in the top three percent of universities in the rankings.
QS analysed institutional performance against academic and employer reputation, faculty to student ratio, citations per faculty, international students and international faculty. CUHK achieved a perfect score in international faculty, and performed very strongly in citations per faculty.
CUHK outperformed the global median results in all fields. Standout results included a 192.7 citation rate per faculty member against a global median of 43.3 and an international faculty ratio of 53.6 compared to a global median of 8.6.
The University also maintained its position as 7th in Asia in the latest the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings, which were unveiled earlier this month. THE world rankings judged research-intensive universities across their core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, using 13 performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five pillars including teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. The Asia University Rankings use the same performance indicators, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.
CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rocky S. Tuan said the result is testament to the commitment to excellence across the University community.
‘This ranking demonstrates our commitment to academic excellence right across the community. This global assessment provides a strong reference point as we actively progress towards our goal of excellence with purpose and responsibility to the societies we serve here in Hong Kong, nationally and globally’, he said.
‘I would like to thank our staff, students, alumni and partners for their hard work and dedication in ensuring that CUHK is synonymous with excellence and we are recognised for our efforts right around the world.’
