University appointments
New Council Members
Dr Barbara P.L. Kwok (left) and Mr Enders W.H. Lam (right) have been elected by the Convocation, in accordance with Statute 11.1(n) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance, as Members of the Council each for a period of three years with effect from 4 July 2022.
Dr Barbara P.L. Kwok is currently Senior Consultant of K. H. Lau & Co. and Directors of various companies. She is also Director of CUHK Greater Bay Area Alumni Association Limited and the past President of the Association of Women Accountants (Hong Kong). Mr Enders W.H. Lam is currently the Chairman of the Time Industrial Manufactory Limited, Chairman of the Watches and Clocks Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Vice-Chairman of the Watch and Clock Industry Training Advisory Committee of the Education Bureau.
New Associate Vice-President, College Head/Master and Dean of Graduate School
Associate Vice-President (Education)
Professor Hector Chan Sun-on, Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Head of New Asia College, has been appointed as Associate Vice-President (Education) on a concurrent basis for three years from 1 August 2022.
Professor Chan will assist Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning at the University. He will play an active part in strengthening entrepreneurship in education as well as ensuring CUHK remains a destination of choice for high-quality students.
Professor Chan said, “CUHK is a world-leading research institution. It is my greatest honour to serve my alma mater and to nurture the younger generations. To place students at the centre of our work and provide them with the best learning and research environment are my working principles. I believe, together, we will attain these goals.”
Head of United College
Professor Stephen Wong Heung-sang, Professor in the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, has been appointed as Head of United College for an initial period of four years from 1 August 2022, succeeding Professor Jimmy Yu Chai-mei.
Professor Wong said, “My primary goal is to provide non-formal education of the highest standard to our College’s students. Enriching the learning and life experiences of the students will continue to be a top priority under my leadership, particularly for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 crisis.”
Master of S.H. Ho College
Professor Vincent Mok Chung-tong, Professor in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, has been appointed as Master of S.H. Ho College for an initial period of four years from 1 August 2022, succeeding Professor Wong Wing-shing.
Professor Mok said, “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed the Master of a college that students take pride in calling home. I will strive to cultivate students of different backgrounds into talented people and future leaders by honing virtue and responsibility, continuing the college’s mission of encouraging fruitful whole-person development.”
Dean of Graduate School
Professor Anthony So Man-cho, Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, has been appointed as Dean of the Graduate School for three years on a concurrent basis from 1 August 2022.
Professor So said, “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the Dean of the Graduate School. CUHK is renowned for its high-quality postgraduate education and for the trailblazing discoveries made by its faculty members and students. I look forward to working with the Faculties and the Graduate School team, not only to attract the best talents from around the world, but also to cultivate our next-generation leaders in various sectors.”
