CUHK breaks into top 100 in latest THE Impact Rankings
CUHK has been placed 83rd in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023. It is the first year that it has been ranked among the world’s top 100. The result demonstrates significant progress towards the University’s commitment to advancing the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs).
CUHK achieved an overall score of 89.4 and is again the highest ranked university in Hong Kong. Among the 17 sustainable development goals used to compile the rankings, CUHK performed the best in Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), ranking 5th, 22nd and 23rd respectively.
CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan said: “Embracing social responsibility for sustainable development is a fundamental pillar of the CUHK Strategic Plan 2021-2025. As a socially responsible university, CUHK is committed to advancing the sustainable development goals across the entirety of our research, education and engagement efforts. This result represents an important external validation of our efforts, and we will continue to work hard to embed sustainability and social responsibility at the heart of everything we do.”
The THE Impact Rankings 2023 include 1,591 universities from 112 countries and regions. It is the world’s only ranking list that measures universities’ contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and it assesses their commitment to sustainability across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.
