Advancing women’s leadership in academia

To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, the Women Academics Sub-Committee organized a webinar entitled ‘Advancing Women Academics in Leadership’ on May 12. It featured Pro-Vice-Chancellors cum Co-Chairpersons of the Sub-Committee Professor Sham Mai Har and Professor Anthony T.C. Chan, Professor Mei Po Kwan (Faculty of Social Science), Professor Siew C. Ng (Faculty of Medicine), Ms. Kelly Y.S. Chan (Council Member) and Professor Lynne Nakano (moderator/ Faculty of Arts). Attended by more than 60 CUHK staff and students, both male and female, the participants discussed the status of women academics in leadership, their challenges in advancing into leadership positions, and how to empower them to overcome the obstacles for professional advancement and to bring greater influence in their professional arena.

The Provost Professor Alan K.L. Chan gave a welcome address for this year’s celebration. He remarked that CUHK cherishes the value of diversity and inclusion, which are central to achieving academic excellence, and enriching the educational experience and learning environment for all CUHK members.
