Amphibious nurture for data magicians

CUHK and its Shenzhen counterpart are joining hands to offer a double major programme that spans both campuses, the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

Students will study interdisciplinary data analytics, and take another major from among the 11 disciplines offered by CUHK or CUHK (Shenzhen). Subject to Senate’s approval, the new programme is slated for the 2023–24 academic year. Forty to 50 students will be recruited every year, with half of them coming from each campus. Students on the Hong Kong side will be admitted through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System and other channels.

The mandatory first major, interdisciplinary data analytics, encompasses business, engineering and science, emphasising real-life application of big data and business analytics. The second major features a wide range of options, including statistics, information engineering, integrated BBA, electrical and computer engineering, financial engineering among others.

During the four-year study period, students will spend two years on each campus. A bachelor’s degree will be awarded by the respective university, with two majors printed on the degree certificate. Paid full-time internship is guaranteed via the Co-operative Education Programme, where they may leverage the University’s wide network and gain work experience in either city.
