Critical moments at World Cup Final

The 2022 Qatar World Cup Final took place at nighttime on 18 Dec 2022, featuring Argentina against France. Held at the Lecture Theatre of Shaw College, the “World Cup Final@Shaw” live stream event drew participation of CUHK and Shaw community as well as alumni of the College to enjoy watching the fierce rivalry. Four scholars-cum-football fans, namely Professor Francis Lee, Dr Allan Au, Mr Ivan Choy and Professor Lui Tai-lok, also attended the event.

Right at the beginning, Dr Au and Mr Choy asked the audience about the team they supported. It turned out that most of them favoured the Argentina team led by Messi who was about to complete his career haul. Around 70 participants of the University watched the live stream rivalry at the College, including the Head of Shaw College Professor Freedom Leung, the Associate Head and Dean of General Education Professor Winton Au and the Dean of students Professor Morris Jong. Everyone enjoyed snacks and predicted the results in the pre-match party. In the end, Argentina defeated France on the penalties shootout and won the World Cup. Many fans became ecstatic and the atmosphere was sizzling, with cheers filling the air in the Lecture Theatre.
