Diamond jubilee walk

Held on 21 March in the morning, around 500 CUHK participants joined the Walking Campaign 2023. They started their 40-minute journey from the Entrance Piazza to the Jockey Club Postgraduate Hall, through which they could enjoy the spring breeze and picturesque campus.

Besides celebrating the diamond jubilee of the University, the event aims at promoting the benefits of walking and encouraging a healthy low-carbon lifestyle. At the opening ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Rocky S. Tuan encouraged the participants to exercise regularly. “Walking is one of the most economical, convenient, and effective exercises for promoting health. If we maintain basic physical activity every day, it will bring long-term benefits to our health.”

The 40-minute route encompasses various spots like the Pond Crescent, Yasumoto International Academic Park, Lee Shau Kee Architecture Building, the University Sports Centre and CW Chu College along the way. Upon completion of the walk, the participants have achieved their daily exercise goal.

Professor Tuan also mentioned the biodiversity on campus. “We have planted almost a hundred species of trees and plants. Our environment is a quiet habitat to many animals and birds. I hope that everyone will walk more often on campus, enjoy the natural beauty, and build up your daily exercise habits.”

The event was co-organised by Committee on Health Promotion and Protection, University Health Service, Estates Management Office, Security and Transport Office, Physical Education Unit, Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office, and Communications and Public Relations Office.
