Chung Chi College holds “Walk of Excellence” walkathon for redevelopment project
On 30 April, CUHK’s Chung Chi College held the “Walk for Excellence” walkathon to raise funds for the College’s latest redevelopment project (known as “Project E”). Over 150 alumni and friends of Chung Chi College joined the walkathon along with their friends and family. Walking from Harlech Road to Peak Road on Victoria Peak, participants enjoyed the beauteous views of Victoria Harbour. The walkathon ended up raising $2.4 million, more than twice the original target of $1 million — an edifying result for all concerned.
During the ceremony to mark the start of the walkathon, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr Norman Chan Tak-lam stressed the importance of “Project E” to the College community. “Compared with the College being established 71 years ago, the scale of the College, the student population and our society have been transformed a lot. Facing the ever-changing world, I look forward to enhancing the campus facilities and working together to cultivate the new generation,” said Dr Chan.
Head of Chung Chi College Professor Fong Wing-ping thanked participants for their support of the event. He said: “The success of this event comes from the generosity of sponsors and donors, as well as the collective efforts of alumni and colleagues. This shows the ability of Chung Chi people to come together in collaboration.”
“Project E” was launched to promote the mission of the College’s long-term development and education. The current Block E staff quarters, adjacent to University MTR station, will be redeveloped into two buildings, which will include accommodation for students and staff, an activity centre for alumni, and a Digital Culture and Art Creativity Centre, the latter of which will be a multi-purpose space open to staff and students alike to gather and exchange ideas. The fundraising target for the College is HK $180 million, and it will continue to raise funds through different activities in the next three years.
