Rowing victory

CUHK Rowing continued dominance in the Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2023, securing their 22nd overall win.

The CUHK team claimed double first in men’s and women’s championships in the boat race held on Shing Mun River, Sha Tin on August 19 and 20. In total, the 38-strong team took nine medals across ten events, including six gold, two silver and one bronze. Teams from eight local universities took part in this largest joint-school rowing event for universities in Hong Kong held annually.

Dr Elean Leung Fun-lin, Director of the Physical Education Unit, says the competition this year was exceptionally fierce: “It was really a tight win for us at the men’s eight event, the last match. Our team members had dedicated themselves to rigorous training throughout the summer. I’m glad they made it in the end.”

Professor Nick Rawlins, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President, and Professor Ko Wing-hung, University Dean of Students, presented prizes to the team.
