Human-centred musician kit winning design awards

Since middle school, Dr Zhang Chuanhao has chosen music as his lifelong career. He has left his musical footprints receiving education and working in the mainland China, Hong Kong, Europe, US and other places. As he embarked on his music teaching career, he discovered that most of the music accessories on the market were outdated and inconvenient.

“So I decided to create new music accessories that meet modern needs and design truly good products for every musician in the world,” he said. With his musical background and passion for art, he founded RITKIT which focuses on designing and producing musical accessories. The startup office moved to the InnoHub at Shezhen Research Institute (SZRI) of CUHK in October 2021.

RIT originates from Ritardanto, drawing on slowing melodies to illustrate the brand’s attitude towards music using a pure and rational rhythm. “Looking inwards, we slow down and retrace the intrinsic nature of music. Searching outward, we escalate and excel with our passion in music,” Dr Zhang said.

The second-generation RITKIT musician kit launched in 2023 won the Best of the Best award in the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award this year. This kit combines a music stand, a desktop music stand, a storage box, and a music stand lamp. With the music stand as the core, it can be used in different combinations according to different scenarios. The company looks forward to building a global music brand with international influence in the next decade.

The Red Dot jury’s comments for the RITKIT Musician-KIT: The music stand features a number of helpful add-ons which fit consistently with the uncluttered look and high quality of the main product. It is also very easy to use – not a single screw is required.
