Inaugural ‘Civil Service Week’ organised by CUHK
The Career Planning and Development Centre of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) organised the “Civil Service Week” from 26 September to 6 October, featuring recruitment information for 21 policy bureaux and departments, and over 40 civil service grades.
In order to attract people with aspirations to serve the community to join the civil service, as well as enable young people to better plan their career development, starting from this year, the government will expand the pool of eligible candidates for civil service jobs requiring an undergraduate degree to students in their penultimate year of undergraduate studies. To support the initiative, the OSA inaugurated a “Civil Service Week” to provide an on-campus platform to connect students to the government recruiting officers.
One of the highlights was the two-day Civil Service Fair, which started on 27 September at the Yasumoto International Academic Park. Representatives from 21 government bureaux and departments visited the campus and talked to students. In addition, students attained more detailed information at a range of recruitment talks covering the positions of administrative officer, executive officer and economist.
Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Leung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President (Student Experience) Professor Nick Rawlins, University Dean of Students Professor Ko Wing-hung, Director at the Office of Student Affairs Elaine Tam, and Head of Career Planning and Development Centre Stefani Ng, visited the Fair on 28 September. As our respected alumnus, Leung shared the experience of his university life and civil service career, as well as points to note in the application process with our student ambassadors.
To cater for the diverse interests of students, and to enable them to better understand the duties of disciplinary forces, the Hong Kong Police Force held the Police University Recruitment Express (PURE) on 3 October, while the Fire Services Department conducted a recruitment day on 6 October. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Joe Chow Yat-ming visited his alma mater and shared invaluable experience with students at the recruitment talk on 3 October.
The Career Planning and Development Centre of the Office of Student Affairs is committed to supporting students on their job-hunting and career planning. Diversified career education and recruitment programmes are organized throughout the year.
