A cornucopia of cultural delights

Over 400 students, teachers and staff had a deep dive into world cultures in the Cultural Vibes@CUHK cultural festival run by the Office of Student Affairs on 31 October.

In line with the University’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and inclusiveness on campus, the dynamic festival in the Cultural Square was kick-started by a series of stunning cultural performances. A rich constellation of cultural booths was run by local and non-local students, showcasing unique cultures of Bangladesh, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Vietnam through regional art, interactive games, traditional snacks, languages and souvenirs, all of which served to deepen participants’ appreciation for different cultures.

Christine Wong, a local student participating in the Sri Lankan dance workshop and performing at the opening ceremony, was excited about the exposure. “Participating in this workshop and having the opportunity to showcase the dance on stage was a memorable experience for me. Not only did I get to try out Sri Lankan traditional dance, but I also learnt about the cultural aspects of the country,” she said. “Moreover, I was able to meet fellow students from various cultural backgrounds, including international and graduate students, whom I might not have encountered otherwise. This event provided a wonderful platform for cultural exchange and teamwork.”
