Chung Chi College celebrates its 72nd anniversary

Founded in 1951, Chung Chi College (CCC) of CUHK celebrates its 72nd anniversary this year. On 27 October 2023 — the Founders’ Day of CCC, a series of events were held to not only celebrate the anniversary of the College, but to also bring together College staff, students, and alumni to enjoy with one another a wonderful and unforgettable time.

This year’s thanksgiving service, held at the CCC Chapel, was also the inauguration ceremony of Professor Kwan Mei-po, the new College Head. Professor Kwan stressed at the beginning of her speech that no matter how difficult the situation now might be, as long as one relies on courage and perseverance, he or she can always find a way out. She also reminded everyone to focus on what they can control by sharing her memorable experience of studying in the States; Comparison and demarcation between one another will never lead us to the way of progress and happiness. “Every person faces their own big era. We should learn from others, always be kinder than necessary, and embrace differences,” Professor Kwan said at the end of her speech.

Chung Chi Founders’ Day Student Festival

The “Student Festival” coordinated by the CCC Student Union entered its highlight in the afternoon and evening of the Founders’ Day as two traditional celebration events, the “Fun Run” and the “Thousand People Feast”, which attracted nearly 2,000 CC-ers to participate in, were respectively held. These two events have been very popular over the years, providing precious opportunities for all CC-ers to gather and promote mutual connections and friendship.

The very first “Thousand People Feast” since the epidemic was “Dai pai dong” themed, hoping to create a unique “Dai pai dong” experience for the participants. On that night, students showed off their talents on the stage one after another, such as singing, dancing and band performance, giving the audience an exciting and enjoyable time. In the middle of the stage performance, Professor Cheung Yuet-wah, CCC Senior College Tutor and Former Warden, led a big group of teachers and staff to sing a number of CC theme songs, filling the atmosphere with joy and harmony. Unsurprisingly, the audience responded enthusiastically and walked to the front of the stage to sing along together. The whole day of celebratory programmes finished with the laughter of all CC-ers. The Founders’ Day Student Festival was a huge success!

More than 300 staff, students, and alumni joined the Fun Run this year
