Council appointments

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 has come into force since the gazettal of the Amendment Bill on 10 November 2023. Following said gazettal, the commencement of the reorganised council with new composition has taken effect on the same date.

The following persons have been appointed as members of the Council, in accordance with The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance:

  • Professor Poon Wai-yin, a Pro-Vice-Chancellor (other than the Provost) in accordance with Statute 11.1(ca), for a period from 14 December 2023 to 30 April 2026.
  • Persons nominated by the Boards of Trustees of the original Colleges and of the Shaw College, in accordance with Statute 11.1(e), for a period of one year from 8 December 2023:
    • Mr Eric Chan Cho-biu, Chung Chi College
    • Mr Charles Leung Ying-wai, New Asia College
    • Ms Lina Yan Hau-yee, United College
    • Mr Clement Fung Siu-to, Shaw College
  • 4 persons, ordinarily resident in Hong Kong and at least one of those persons a graduate of the University, in accordance with Statute 11.1(m), for a period of 3 years from 14 December 2023:
    • Ms Sonia Cheng Chi-man, Chief Executive Officer of Rosewood Hotel Group, Vice-Chairman and Executive Director of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited
    • Mr Peter Kung, Chairman of Supreme Genius Consulting
    • Dr Luk Che-chung, J.P. (graduate of CUHK), Vice-Chairman of Virtus Medical Group
    • Mr Wong Hak-keung, Albert (graduate of CUHK), Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

Introduction to new appointees

Mr Peter Kung is the Chairman of Supreme Genius Consulting. He is the former Vice-President of KPMG China and past President of The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong. He has over 30 years of professional tax experience and is one of the very few Chartered Tax Advisors in Hong Kong who has the qualification to practise tax in Mainland China.

Dr Luk Che-chung is a graduate of CUHK and is currently the Vice-Chairman of Virtus Medical Group.  He has extensive executive experience in the healthcare sector. He is the former Cluster Chief Executive of the Hong Kong East, and the Hospital Chief Executive of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, Wong Chuk Hang Hospital, and St. John Hospital.

Mr Wong Hak-keung, Albert is a graduate of CUHK and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). Mr Wong has over 30 years of commercial, industrial and leadership experience through roles with various multinationals.  Prior to HKSTP, he served as Chief Executive Officer, General Electric (GE) Oil and Gas China, as well as Chief Executive Officer, GE Industrial Solutions Asia Pacific.
