Stepping into the world of poetry

The “I·CARE Theatre 2023-24”, organised by I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development, Student Experience and Development Section, Office of Student Affairs, kicked off with its first screening for the second semester on 22 January. Documentary Elegies, directed by Ann Hui (top centre), was screened.

Director Ann Hui visited Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Taiwan to engage in conversations with various poets, exploring the essence of poetry. She interviewed two poets, Huang Canran and Liu Wai-tong, who have already left Hong Kong, documenting their perspectives on poetry and their lives. The screening attracted over 600 students, staff and alumni of CUHK, who immersed themselves in the world of poetry at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall.

The post-screening discussion was hosted by Dr Derrick Au (top right), where the director and poet Mr Liu (top left) shared the stories behind their creations and their personal journeys. The discussion was filled with laughter and insightful remarks, providing the audience with unforgettable moments. The attendees participated and posed questions enthusiastically during the discussion.

Both guests stayed after the discussion for autograph and chatted with the participants.
