Co-op@CUHK facilitates productive dialogue between Hong Kong and Indonesian ferry companies
On 22 February, Co-op@CUHK organised an exchange event among senior executives from the ferry industry. Along with Legislative Council member Frankie Yick Chi-ming, Co-op@CUHK brought together distinguished guests from PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) and management representatives from five local ferry companies, namely Discovery Bay Transportation Services Limited (DBTSL), Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Limited (HKKF), Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited, The Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company Limited (HYF), as well as the “Star” Ferry Company, Limited (“Star Ferry”). This discussion unfolded aboard the “World Star” ferry, a collaborative venture between The Peninsula Hong Kong and Star Ferry.
Facilitated by Programme Director of Co-op@CUHK Dr John Lai, the event kicked off with an opening address by Mr Yick, followed by sharing by CEO of ASDP Ira Puspadewi, as well as by representatives from the participating Hong Kong ferry firms, facilitating mutual understanding of the ferry industries within both Hong Kong and Indonesia. “This event marks the first occasion where senior executives from all major ferry companies in Hong Kong have convened in dialogue,” said Cheung Tai-kee, Chairman of HKKF, during his sharing.
The dialogue among ferry operators from two distinct regions presented a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and mutual learning, sparking inspiration and setting the stage for potential future collaborations. Furthermore, the event served to broaden Co-op@CUHK’s corporate connections within the ferry industry in Hong Kong, as participants have shown enthusiasm for partnering with Co-op@CUHK in developing young talent in the industry.
