Acting Vice-Chancellor of CUHK joins Hong Kong higher education institution delegation’s visit to Beijing

A delegation of Hong Kong higher education institutions led by Secretary for Education Dr Choi Yuk-lin,visited Beijing from 8 May to 10 May.

The delegation was received on 10 May by Mr Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. Mr Xia pointed out that the city’s higher education had unique advantages, and that universities must keep in mind the importance of cultivating more talent, producing more scientific research outcomes, and making more contributions to national development.

The delegation called on Minister of Education Mr Huai Jinpeng, the Ministry of Science and Technology as well as the headquarters of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The delegation also visited a mainland technology enterprise to learn about the development trend of digital economy and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Chan, who joined the study tour, said: “I’m honoured to have the opportunity to learn more about the development strategies of the country, including the latest advancements in education and technology. CUHK will continue to strengthen cooperation with higher education institutions on the mainland, to complement the national strategy of ‘invigorating the country through science and education’.”
