A cultural heritage journey with Hong Kong Palace Museum Director

The Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence Programme returns this year from 17 to 19 October under the theme of “Cultural Heritage Journey – from Hong Kong to the World “. Alumnus Louis Ng Chi-wa (1985/NA/HIS, 1989/GS/M.Phil. in His, 1999/GS/PhD in HIS), Museum Director of Hong Kong Palace Museum of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, will share with us his personal growth and experiences at CUHK, as well as his expertise and visionary leadership in the realms of artistic direction and curatorial strategies. He will also mentor students who are aspiring to carve a path in the art and cultural industry, giving them guidance and sharing them with his invaluable knowledge and insights needed to excel in the field.

About Dr Louis Ng Chi-wa:

Dr Louis Ng has been the inaugural Director of the Hong Kong Palace Museum since August 2019, overseeing the planning, construction and operations of the museum. The museum has welcomed over 2.5 million visitors since its opening in July 2022.  He has extensive experience in museum management and heritage conservation. He was the founding Director of the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, which opened in 2000. He headed the Antiquities and Monuments Office from 2002 to 2006 leading the archaeological and built heritage conservation in Hong Kong. Before joining the Hong Kong Palace Museum, he was Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, where he oversaw the department’s culture-related institutions such as museums, performing arts centres and public libraries. Currently, he is also an Adjunct Professor of the CUHK Fine Arts Department.
