CUHK ranks a record 44th in THE World University Rankings 2025

CUHK reached 44th in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, nine slots up from last year, delivering its best performance in the league table since its launch in 2010.

Among the five assessment areas, CUHK ranks 13th worldwide in the area of “research quality”, underscoring its research commitment and excellence.

It is also the ninth consecutive year the University has made to the world’s top 100 universities.

This year’s THE World University Rankings included 2,092 universities around the world. It assessed research-intensive institutions based on 17 performance indicators across the five core missions of teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

Among the performance indicators, CUHK achieved a perfect score of 100 in six of them in this edition, including “institutional income”, “research productivity”, “research income”, “research excellence”, “patents” and “international staff”.

CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan said: “We are very proud to see CUHK reaching its highest ever position in the THE World University Rankings, reflecting the dedication and excellence of every member within the CUHK community, particularly in research and knowledge transfer. We are particularly enthused by the recognition of our outstanding ‘Research Quality’, marked by recent substantial research funding to our outstanding scholars and innovative projects.  For instance, CUHK has secured funding for seven projects from the government’s RAISe+ Scheme, the most awards achieved among local institutions.

“CUHK is unwaveringly committed to pursuing excellence and exploring new horizons, and will continue to elevate our academic standing and impact on the global stage and making a greater contribution to society. As I finish my 7-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, this remarkable achievement of CUHK is a truly heartwarming going-away present! Thank you very much, CUHK!”
