Guzheng concert held to celebrate National Day

CUHK organised a concert titled “The 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China – Lin Ling Guzheng Ensemble Performance: Resounding Rhythm of the Prosperous Nation” on 15 October.

The event featured renowned guzheng artist and educator Professor Lin Ling (seen above dressed in blue), who was joined by Professor Xu Lingzi from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the academy’s Guzheng Ensemble, and the Centre for Chinese Music Studies of CUHK, who all performed as special guests. The concert’s classical programme highlighted the allure of the guzheng and the profound cultural heritage it represented, and attracted an audience of over 200.

In his welcoming remarks, CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Chan Wai-yee expressed his gratitude to Professor Lin and her guzheng ensemble, and remarked that the concert was not only an auditory feast, but also helped manifest the rich connotations of Chinese culture.

Throughout the concert, Professor Lin provided insightful commentary, beginning with the classic piece “Jiang Jun Ling”. Professor Xu then led a performance of “Listen to My Drinking Vessel”, while the concert concluded with the melodies of “Song of the Homebound Fishermen” and “Desert Rose”.
