Empowering dreams: Student-led social enterprises blossom

The CUEA Happy Hour Talk Series, co-organised by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Alumni Affairs Office, took place at The Infinity Room, a student-led café on campus on 10 October.

With a full house in attendance, the engaging event brought together students, alumni, and staff, all keen to explore the dreams and processes behind entrepreneurial start-up journeys that aim to create a positive impact on CUHK and society.

The programme began with a video showcasing the business ideas behind The Infinity Room – one of the student ventures awarded by the Social Enterprise Startup Scheme (SESS) 2023-24. A lively fireside chat moderated by Elaine Tam, Director of OSA, featured insights from the co-founders of The Infinity Room: Elisabeth Li, Flora Yau, Winston Lau and Timmy Ng.

The co-founders shared their lessons learned and offered valuable tips for aspiring social entrepreneurs, emphasising that dreams can indeed become reality: understanding the market, setting clear goals and actions, utilising available resources, humility and gratefulness.

They also reminded participants of the importance of community support. Flora said: “We are very lucky to have the support from CUHK. From the funding resources to OSA staff’s guidance that makes our business dream more practical and achievable.” Reflecting on the event, Ms Tam remarked: “OSA is here to support our students to make their dreams come true.”

The afternoon also featured a delightful jazz performance by CUHK Jazz, bringing a cosy vibe to the gathering.

After the gig, participants had time to mingle and connect with each other.
