ShanghaiRanking 2024: 11 CUHK subjects ranked among global top 50

In the ShanghaiRanking’s global ranking of academic subjects 2024, CUHK has 11 subjects making it to the world’s top 50, with six of them coming first in Hong Kong. These include Biomedical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Geography, Communication and Nursing.

Clinical Medicine has achieved first place in Asia for the second consecutive year, making the Faculty of Medicine the only medical school in Asia to feature in the world’s top 50 in the discipline. Additionally, Nursing at the Nethersole School of Nursing is ranked second in Asia.

Separately, in the inaugural edition of the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, announced in November, CUHK attained an impressive 26th position among 749 universities from 92 countries and territories. The new ranking evaluates the contributions and commitments of global universities to interdisciplinary science. It highlights CUHK’s stature as a leading research institution both in Asia and worldwide. The University remains dedicated to maintaining high standards in interdisciplinary research and academic excellence and contributing to global advancements in scientific research.
