A decade of nurturing young social entrepreneurs
The Office of Student Affairs celebrated a decade of supporting young social entrepreneurs at the 10th anniversary and award presentation ceremony of its Social Enterprise Startup Scheme on 29 November.
The event, held by the office’s Student Experience and Development Section, gathered more than 70 participants, including mentors, trainers, students, alumni and CUHK staff at CUHK’s InnoPort. During the ceremony, six winning teams from the SESS 2023-24 cohort were awarded for their innovative business ideas. Each team will receive a maximum of HK$100,000 from the “CUSE Fund” to kickstart their social enterprises.
A highlight of the event was a homecoming sharing session, which brought together three successful social entrepreneurs and previous SESS winners — founder and director of FeStyle, Ding Ding Yip; executive director of MakerBay, Cyron Chan; and founder and director of Wai Sing Music, Kessay Chan Kwan-ming — to engage in a fireside chat moderated by two other awardees, founder of Far Away, Sherry Ho, and founder of SEN AIIT, Cynthia Chan. The speakers shared their personal startup journeys, while newly-awarded teams Lok Lok Sound and The Infinity Room performed music and provided refreshments for guests. The event concluded with a networking session, where students, mentors, and guests exchanged ideas.
