Council appointments

The following persons have been re-/appointed or re-/elected as members of the Council, in accordance with Statutes of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance:

  • 2 Persons nominated by the Boards of Trustees of the original Colleges and of the Shaw College and the Committees of Overseers of the additional Colleges, in accordance with Statute 11.1(e), for a period of one year from 2 February 2025:
    • Dr Wong Chung-kiu, C.W. Chu College
    • Professor Nelson Chen, Morningside College (re-appointed)
  • 2 persons elected by, and from among, the Heads of the original Colleges and of Shaw College and the Masters of the additional Colleges, in accordance with Statute 11.1(f), for a period of one year from 19 January 2025:
    • Professor Chan Sun-on, Head of New Asia College
    • Professor Anthony Chan Tak-cheung, Master of Wu Yee Sun College (re-elected)
  • 1 person elected by, and from among, the Deans of the Faculties and the Dean of the Graduate School, in accordance with Statute 11.1(g), for a period of one year from 22 January 2025:
    • Professor Philip Chiu Wai-yan, Dean of Medicine

Introduction to new appointee

Dr Wong Chung-kiu, BBS, MH

Dr Wong Chung-kiu is the Chairman of iASPEC Technologies Group and a Distinguished Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society. Dr Wong received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley.  He is also a member of the Central Committee of the New People’s Party; Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Information Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; and a non-official member of the Sub-group on Talent Development of the Digital Economy Development Committee of the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau.
