Cornerstone Robotics and CU Medicine sign an MOU for in-depth collaboration on the surgical robot system education and research platform. The Financial Secretary, Paul Chan attends the seminar and delivers an opening speech

Surgical robots introduced to CU Medicine for education and research

Cornerstone Robotics, a local startup founded by Professor Samuel Au Kwok-wai of CUHK, recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University’s Faculty of Medicine, which will engage both sides in in-depth collaboration on the education and development of research platforms of surgical robot systems. This will involve promoting projects related to training, teaching, clinical applications, and the translation of subsequent research.

Cornerstone Robotics has created the Sentire® surgical robot, which has been certified by the National Medical Products Administration and is now officially available for clinical use in both mainland China and Hong Kong. Professor Au said: “We hope to make a greater contribution to the development of smart healthcare in Hong Kong through the application of training guided by AI technology.”

Dean of Medicine Professor Philip Chiu Wai-yan highlighted the successful collaboration with Cornerstone Robotics in conducting clinical trials on the Sentire robot. They aim to enhance medical training for future physicians and advance next-generation surgical technologies for global impact.

The event brought together leaders, scholars, industry professionals, investors, and healthcare practitioners from the medical and innovation sectors. Secondary school students attending the seminar were provided the opportunity to have hands-on experience with the surgical robots.
