Women's tennis team wins championship in inter-university competition
12 March 2025
CUHK Women’s tennis team captured the championship in the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong Cup final on 2 March, beating Polytechnic University and reclaiming the top spot after more than two decades.
CUHK athletes also demonstrated their sporting excellence in other inter-varsity competitions on the same day. The women’s handball team finished as runners-up, while the men’s tennis team secured third place.

Dr Lau Kwok-on, a lecturer at CUHK’s Physical Education Unit and one of the coaches of the women’s tennis team, attributes the success to the outstanding performance of the four key players. He adds that the coaching team also made strategic adjustments to the lineup to counter PolyU’s strengths, which was another factor in securing victory.
Two of the four players competing in the women’s tennis final were admitted to CUHK through the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme, while the other two are recipients of the Sports Scholarship Scheme, according to Dr Lau. He states that their success is a testament to the University’s commitment to attracting top-tier athletes and supporting them in balancing both academic and sporting aspirations, enabling them to excel in both fields.
