Shining at University Sports Federation competitions

CUHK athlete secured the overall men’s first runner-up and overall women’s first runner-up titles at the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong (USFHK) Competitions 2024-25, concluding a stellar season marked by stamina and sportsmanship.

The annual prize presentation ceremony, held on 27 April, celebrated CUHK’s concerted efforts among the athletes, coaches, and supporting staff. Among the honourees was Au Yeung Pui-yue, a second-year student of Exercise Science and Health Education, who was named Sportswoman of the Year for her extraordinary accomplishment in wushu.

Earlier, CUHK athletes clinched championships in men’s and women’s athletics, women’s dragon boat racing, women’s tennis, men’s volleyball and women’s badminton, as well as three individual wins in female’s taekwondo sparring. On April 6, CUHK’s karatedo teams achieved further success: The men’s karatedo team successfully defended their championship title with fierce resolve, while the women’s karatedo team secured the second runner-up position, contributing to CUHK’s overall group championship in karate.

The USFHK Competitions, a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s university sports calendar since 1961, bring together top talent from across the city’s institutions.

Dr Elean Leung Fung-lin, Director of CUHK’s Physical Education Unit, expressed immense pride in the athletes’ achievements. “The teams demonstrated incredible commitment and passion in every competition,” she said. She extended gratitude to the University for providing excellent facilities and resources to support the athletes. She also praised the CUHK Sports Medicine Team for their vital on-field medical assistance. “Their expertise made a significant impact,” she noted.
