Five students get the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships
Five Year 3 students, Cheung Hoi-shan, Choi Ching-lam, Choi Tung, Shiu Cheuk-lam, and Yu Kejing, have recently been awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships. They have not only excelled in their studies, but also demonstrated good character, leadership ability and enthusiasm in community services.
Overcoming Asperger’s syndrome and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Choi Ching-lam is studying Artificial Intelligence (AI): System and Technologies. She won a technical challenge award in a competition by Jockey Club AI for the Future Project for creating a Tai Chi app to promote cross-generational communication in 2020. She also launched a free COVID-19 rapid diagnostic tool to assist medical professionals to speed up early diagnosis of the virus.
Choi Ching-lam said, “Being awarded the scholarship is an honour that I must dedicate to my mentors at Faculty of Engineering and Morningside College. They first saw the best in me; they nurtured me as an engineer, researcher and humanist, keeping me curious, grounded yet also rigorous in my studies. Moving forward, I am motivated to pursue a path of research and teaching in academia, to share, explore and pay it forward.”
